The official website of the Ministry of Education and Science in North Macedonia faced a cyber attack on Saturday. For several hours on the website of this ministry, the message, "Hacked by the Greek hacker team Netwatchers" can be seen, while when clicking on the page, a YouTube video with the title "Famous Macedonia" appears.

Officials of the Ministry of Education and Science have said that "there is no room for concern regarding the assertions about the alleged downloading of citizens' data, because the website does not have such databases".

"The Ministry of Education is in communication with the National Center for Computer Attacks at the Electronic Communications Agency, where the case was reported, and from where we expect concrete actions to be taken in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs to discover the source of the attack", it was said in the announcement of the Ministry of Education.

It was also announced there that "the computer experts of the Ministry of Education are taking actions to increase the security of the website, and only then it will be activated". The cyber attack on the website of the Ministry of Education came after another group of hackers on the social platform Twitter threatened to attack the site and download the data on it if it is not flagged. Bulgarian.

Cyber attacks against the institutions of North Macedonia also occurred in 2021 when the website of the State Statistics Agency was attacked.

The target of the attack was the population registration system. Kosovo, Albania and Montenegro have also reported cyber attacks in recent days. On September 6, the Government of Kosovo announced that several websites of state institutions were the target of a cyber attack, but did not specify which ones.

The attack, however, failed to penetrate the infrastructure of the state computer network, since, as it was said, "it was blocked by the relevant security equipment".

In Albania, authorities have blamed the state of Iran for two attacks on its websites, one in July and another on September 10. As a result, Albania has severed diplomatic relations with Iran. At the end of August, the Government in Montenegro also announced that it was the target of cyber attacks. Suspicions of responsibility have been cast on Russia and Cuba.

To investigate this attack, a team of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has already gone to Montenegro./REL
