Germany are finally celebrating under Jurgen Klopp. The "Pants" defeated Serbia 2-0 at the Allianz Arena in the third match of Group A2 of the Nations League, giving the German coach his first victory in charge of the national team.
After a 1-1 draw with the Netherlands on his debut and a 0-1 loss to Greece, Klopp finally found his first success with Germany. In Munich, the coach significantly changed the formation and gave space to some of the new names.
Germany took the lead in the 39th minute. Florian Wirtz hit the post, while Tom Bischof was in the right place to take advantage of the rebound and score his first goal for the national team.
In the second half, in the 61st minute, the second goal came. Florian Wirtz took advantage of Maximilian Mittelstadt's pass and calmly sent the ball into the net for 2-0. Germany controlled the match until the end and took the long-awaited three points. The victory was especially important after the defeat against Greece.
In the other group match, Greece and the Netherlands played out a dramatic encounter in Thessaloniki. The Greeks took the lead in the 23rd minute through Fotis Ioannidis, while Giorgos Masouras scored at the end of the first half to make it 2-0. The Netherlands responded after the break and reduced the gap in the 59th minute through Virgil van Dijk.
When it looked like Greece would pull off another big win, Tijjani Reijnders scored in the 89th minute to give the Netherlands a 2-2 draw. So, after three matches, Greece leads Group A2 with 7 points, the Netherlands has 5, Germany has 4 and Serbia remains without points. Germany returns to the race for the top two places that will take them to the quarterfinals.
Portugal continues its march in this edition of the Nations League. The Lusitanian team also imposed itself on Denmark in Copenhagen, defeating them 3-0.
Portugal took to the pitch in the chaos created by Cristiano Ronaldo's sudden departure from the national team, but the tensions seemed to go unnoticed on the pitch. Just 13 minutes into the game, the Lusitanian team took a 1-0 lead through Joao Cancelo after an assist from Gonçalo Ramos. Moments later, in the 25th minute, Denmark equalized with Damsgaard.
But the tie was short-lived, as just 2 minutes later Portugal scored again and this time it was Gonçalo Ramos himself who scored in the Danish goal after a combination with Bruno Fernandes, taking the lead at 2-1, the figures with which the first half of the challenge ended. At the beginning of the second 45 minutes, Denmark equalized at 2-2 with Hojlund after a counterattack. A goal that gave encouragement to the Scandinavians who also tried with Maehle, but without success.
It didn't take long for Portugal to score again, taking the lead to 3-2 with a goal from Vitinha. In the final minutes, Portugal scored again, this time through Joao Felix, bringing the score to 4-2 with Jorge Jesus' team registering their third consecutive victory and now comfortably leading the group with a full 9 points.
