In a historic achievement, researchers have fully analyzed the DNA of a person from Ancient Egypt, bringing unprecedented insight into the ancestry of a man who lived during the period when the first pyramids were built.

This individual, whose remains were found buried in a sealed clay container in the village of Nuwayrat, south of Cairo, lived around 4,500 to 4,800 years ago, making it the oldest sample of ancient Egyptian DNA ever analyzed.

According to the study published in the journal Nature, 80% of its genetic material belongs to ancient North African populations, while 20% is related to peoples from West Asia and the Mesopotamian region.

The findings provide new evidence for cultural connections between ancient Egypt and societies in the "Fruitful Arc," an area that includes modern-day Iraq, Iran, and Jordan. While until now the connections were known only through archaeological discoveries, these new results provide genetic evidence that deepens our knowledge.

Analysis of the man's skeleton also showed signs of hard work throughout his life, providing a complete portrait of this individual's life.

Scientists fully analyzed the DNA of this ancient Egyptian, revealing for the first time highly detailed genetic data about his ancestry and connections to other ancient populations.

Dr. Adeline Morez Jacobs, lead author of the study and a researcher at Liverpool John Moores University in England, said that “by combining data from his DNA, bones and teeth, we were able to build a comprehensive picture.” She added that she hopes that other DNA samples from ancient Egypt will help better determine when these movements from West Asia began.

Although this study focuses on a single individual, experts believe that further discoveries will help better understand the origins of the early Egyptians, who founded one of the most well-known and enduring civilizations in history.
