PHOTO / Part of an ancient sculpture is discovered in the ancient city of Amantia

In the archaeological park of Amantia, an ancient sculpture has been discovered in the ancient acropolis, which was partially exposed on the surface.

The archaeologists then carried out the archaeological excavation and its transport near the premises of the Directorate of Heritage in Vlora.

This directory informs that in the park, the sculpture was exposed to natural factors as well as damages from vandal acts.

Although the ancient sculpture was not completely preserved, a significant part of its elements were preserved. Now, the card of the object is being prepared for registration at the National Institute of Cultural Heritage Registration.

"During the inspections in the Amantia Archaeological Park, DRTK - Vlora employees identified the presence of an ancient sculpture in the ancient acropolis, which was partially exposed on the surface.

Pursuant to the Decision of KKTKM no. 162, dated 13.06.2024, the archaeological excavation was carried out for the discovery of the sculpture, as well as its transport near the premises of DRTK - Vlorë, to ensure its protection, since the sculpture was exposed to natural factors, as well as possible damage from vandal acts.

Although the ancient sculpture was not completely preserved, a significant part of the elements were preserved from it", announces DRTK Vlorë.
