Several other monumental tombs have been discovered in the Archaeological Park of Amantia, near Vlora.

As "DRTK Vlorë" announces, the graves are built with large stone blocks, which indicates their great importance.

However, what stands out are the sporadic excavations in this area, which seem to still hide great treasures from antiquity. Amantia is one of the most unique Illyrian cities with a stadium, basilica and acropolis.

During the month of June, a team of archaeologists and restorers from DRTK - Vlorë, engaged in archaeological excavations and the discovery of another monumental tomb at the entrance to the territory of the Archaeological Park of Amantia, which is located on the edge of the road that connects the villages of Ploçë and Amonica. (Selenica municipality).

The existence of this tomb was claimed during the rescue archaeological excavations carried out by DRTK - Vlorë and D.SH.A / IKTK, in 2020, where in that year, the first monumental tomb was discovered in that territory.

Given that the monument needed restorative intervention, complete opening of the surface to enable the drainage of the waters that were damaging it, as well as its study and documentation, with the decision of the National Council of Material Cultural Heritage, were approved and carried out, the aforementioned necessary interventions.

From the preliminary results, we say that the discovered grave was used for burials from the c. Up to the century II BC Inside the monumental tomb space with stone blocks, a tomb with brick masonry has been built. Of the other discovered elements, the plastering of the interior of the burial chamber attracts attention. The discovered objects are mainly fragmented ceramic vessels, a few complete vessels, fragmented glass vessels, as well as metal objects, where a large part consists of nails.

Around the monumental tomb, other tombs with tiles, from the same period, were found and documented. In addition to conservation measures, DRTK - Vlorë specialists are also designing a restoration and museological project for the monument.

Now, at the entrance to the Archaeological Park of Amantia, you can visit a group of monumental tombs, with special architecture and thousands of years of history.
