The wrestling gym where Chechen wrestlers train collapsed on Saturday afternoon. The ceiling of the gym collapsed, but fortunately there were no athletes training there.
The VoxNews editorial office has received a photo of this gym, showing pieces of the ceiling falling to the ground. The work has been done in a haphazard manner, with the cost being borne by the athletes, who gave Albania its first Olympic medals at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
But how much did the reconstruction of this gym cost? According to VoxNews documents, the reconstruction was carried out by the Tirana Sports Club in 2020. Former director Devorah Keçi signed the tender, while the winner was the company VAS Konstruksion, which later took the name 5D. The company is under investigation by SPAK for serious abuses, one of which was this tender.
In 2020, the Tirana Sports Club finalized the tender with the object of "reconstruction of the wrestling gym" with a value of 3.4 million lekë. 5D emerged as the winner, while former director Deborah Keçi was charged. The gym is located near Kavajës Street in Tirana, near the Church. It is a one-story building, which is very narrow and not at all conducive to training.
