Law enforcement authorities suspect that a rival drug trafficking gang, made up of Albanian traffickers, is behind the murder of a 52-year-old man, NG, on Sunday morning in Glyfada, south of Athens.

Investigators are looking into a possible link between the execution and a collision that occurred in Piraeus in late May.

During that incident, a figure from the Albanian criminal world, known by the nickname "Titi", pulled out a gun against the police officers. The latter shot, injured and arrested him.

The victim, who had a serious criminal past, including involvement in extortion rings, violent clashes between fans and allegations of domestic violence, worked as a security guard at the entrance to a nightclub near the coast.

Police suspect that he had recently expanded into drug distribution in the Athens area, which may have sparked a bloody conflict over control of disputed territories.

The perpetrators ambushed NG a few hundred meters from his apartment, after following him on his motorbike. They then shot him seven times in the back and once in the head.

The Homicide Division is collecting security camera footage. So far, investigators have secured a remote, low-quality video recording the murder./ kathimerini
