VAT refund for businesses, Mete asks the tax authorities to speed up the

Minister of Finance and Economy, Mr. Ervin Mete has asked the Tax Administration to handle the VAT refund procedures with priority and in an accelerated manner, for all businesses, in order not to have liabilities carried over for the next year.

The acceleration of these payments is expected to create some breathing space, especially for exporting companies, which are suffering as a result of the fall of the euro.

Mete noted the good progress of revenue collection so far, which is expected to continue until the end of the year.

The Minister of Finance made these statements at the Investment Council, at the last meeting for 2023, with the topic of discussion "Consultation of structural reforms of the Economic Reforms Program 2024-2026".

In his speech, Minister Mete first summarized the good performance of the economy throughout 2023, emphasizing the increase in foreign direct investments to 1.1 billion euros for the 9-month period, the decrease in unemployment to 10.5% and the increase in participation in the forces of work at the rate of 76.1%, as well as positive developments in the tourism sector where the number of visitors until November reached 9.5 million.

Focusing on the topic of the meeting, the Minister emphasized the importance of the Economic Reforms Program, based on the fact that the European Commission published a few weeks ago the Growth Plan for the countries of the Western Balkans, which foresees 6 billion euros in funds for the next 3 years . From these funds, Albania is expected to benefit about 1 billion euros, depending on the progress and advancement of the reforms.

In this context, the Minister said that the widest possible involvement of the business community in the shaping of these reforms will create a more stable basis for achieving the objectives.

On the other hand, the Minister informed that it is intended to further expand the members of the Investment Council with the widest possible representation from the business community, as an important forum in Government-Business dialogue and cooperation.
