The Council of Ministers has sent the National Security Strategy for the period 2023-2028 to the Assembly for approval. According to the executive, this document follows the one from 2014, which due to the developments itself no longer responds to the security challenges that our country is currently facing. The drafting of the new document was done taking into consideration the influence of factors that reflect the evolving nature of security threats today related to the violation of democracy on a global scale, cyber threats, food security, climate change, etc.

Negative international developments have further deepened the geostrategic rivalry of recent years and further worsened the existing economic-social problems on a large scale, negatively affecting the energy sphere on a global scale, bringing about a significant contraction of global economic growth forecasts, an increase in inflation, as well as a high increase in the prices of raw materials.

Also, these developments seriously affect food security, making concrete the risk of a serious food crisis during the next 2-3 years, which, especially in poor countries, can have explosive social-political effects with all the consequences possible negatives, including regional conflicts and repeated waves of immigration to Europe.

The current situation has thus created an accumulation of challenges and threats, which extend from the classic dimension of the re-actualization of the military defense of the territories to terrorism and the use of the effects of developing technologies in a damaging or disorienting form, up to climate change and environmental risks. .

As such, they bring with them a high degree of unpredictability, as well as objective difficulties for their effective coping at a purely national level. These negative effects also affect our country, but, in addition to them, the country's security has meanwhile faced the exponential emphasis of some acute threats, such as last summer's cyber attacks against our online systems or attempts at agent infiltration and financial influence of foreign powers unfriendly to our country.
