
Domestic agricultural production, where less and where more, has increased throughout the year 2023. But which crops dominate in certain counties and how is Albania regionalized according to production?
The official data of INSTAT show that the production of cereals in the last year was recorded at 701 thousand tons, and the Fier region has the highest level, occupying a weight of about 25% in relation to the total. This district produces about 176 thousand tons of cereals, including wheat, corn, barley, etc.
In 2023, potato production is recorded at 274 thousand tons, marking an increase of 4.38%, compared to 2022. The district with the highest level of potato production in the country is Korça with 68.4 thousand tons.
While the production of vegetables during the last year has reached the level of 1.3 million tons. Fieri is the district that holds the record for vegetable production with about 544 thousand tons.
Vegetable production in greenhouses represents 22.4% of total vegetable production, where the District with the highest percentage of vegetable production in greenhouses to total vegetable production is Berati with 69%. The lowest percentage was recorded in Gjirokastër district
The production of fruit trees is represented by the production of fruit trees, olives, citrus fruits and grapes. The highest level of production of fruit trees was achieved in Korça district with nearly 74 thousand tons.
Walnuts and chestnuts account for 82.11% of production in the group of nut fruit trees. The highest level of walnut production in this group is recorded in Dibra District with 2400 tons.
Citrus production in 2023 results in 56.7 thousand tons. Vlora County has the highest level with about 63.1% of the total citrus production.
Olive trees and vineyards dominate the district of Fier. The regionalization of production until now has also been dictated by the climatic conditions of each region.
