Energy production from photovoltaic plants, 8 new licenses during 2024

The year 2024 has marked developments in terms of the licenses granted for the production of energy from the sun and the capacity that is expected to be installed by the construction of parks. According to data from the Energy Regulatory Authority, processed by TV, 8 companies were licensed until the end of August, while the total capacity for their projects is 198.6 MW.

This trend follows that of the last 2 years, which has been characterized by an increase in the number of companies licensed to produce electricity from the sun. This, given that during 2023, 9 licenses were granted for a total capacity of 102 MW, while during 2022, 15 companies were licensed for projects with an estimated installed capacity of 225,143 MW. Their licensing came after the 3-year period 2019-2021 when no new licenses were granted. The first licenses for solar energy production were granted in 2018, while there are currently 44 companies.

The granting of these permits takes on a special importance in terms of diversification of energy production sources, given that currently the country is almost entirely dependent on water energy. However, in recent months there has been a slight increase in the energy produced by solar power plants. According to the latest data available from INSTAT, in the second 3 months of the year, photovoltaic plants generated 6.8% of total energy.
