The need for jobs but also for investments in Albania has caused other changes to be made in the law on foreigners. Released for public consultation, the law on foreigners aims to integrate immigrants and their family members, refugees and asylum seekers into the Albanian market, creating more facilities. Through a unique permit, foreigners in our country can also be employed as domestic workers.

"The unique permit as a domestic worker for a foreign citizen is granted if the foreign citizen meets the criteria for temporary residence, the special criteria, determined by the decision of the Council of Ministers. The employer must be registered with the tax authorities", reports A2.

At the end of 2023, the number of foreigners with a residence permit in Albania was 21 thousand 460 inhabitants, experiencing an increase of 18.2%, compared to 2022. With the main reason being employment, the highest number of foreigners is dominated by men with 63.8%, compared to women with 36.2%, who mainly originate from Kosovo, Italy and Turkey, etc. and the working age group of 30-39 years. Most of them are foreigners with a period of 12 months followed by those of 5 years.

But in addition to employees, there will be ease in the law for foreigners as well for residence permits for investors.

"The foreigner is provided with a residence permit as an investor with a two-year time limit when he makes an investment. The ratio of employees in the economic activity should be five Albanian citizens for every foreigner and this ratio should also be kept in the management board. And their salary should be at least as much as the average salary paid in the Republic of Albania", the legal amendments state.

The most recent data of the Bank of Albania, which coincide with the beginning of the year, show that the value of foreign investments in the first three months reached 354 million euros. The highest level ever recorded which generally included real estate investments.

For investors who will benefit from the residence permit in Albania, it will be starting from 90 days, but not more than 5 years.
