What challenges does the merger of two large companies, such as ALBtelecom and ONE, present and what are the main results you expect from this merger?
The synergy between ALBtelecom and One will provide the market with the most ideal combination of the best fixed and mobile networks. This combination of capabilities will create a fantastic platform for converged products, where customers can find everything they want in one store, be it landline or mobile services. Our ultimate goal is to increase the provision of important innovative solutions and create new services such as: rich content, entertainment/gaming, microfinance, insurance, program broadcasting, etc. We know that this will only be achieved by building a new united, highly competitive company that will overcome the challenges and demands of the current markets in the field of telecommunications with new products, better meeting the demands of business and consumers. The combined company will have a complete portfolio,
The merger between ONE and ALBtelecom will reduce, among other things, the number of mobile operators in Albania from the current three to two. What impacts do you expect this reduction in the number of operators to have on the mobile services market?
In our view, the fact that there will only be two players left in the market is a liability. Our ultimate goal is to serve customers with the highest quality products, a more diverse portfolio and richer offerings for their needs in both the business and consumer segments. We want to bring our IT solutions and telecom services to the countries of the Western Balkans, to become part of an exciting future for technology in the region. This is the reason why we consider investing in Albania a long-term and strategic objective that will contribute to the development and digital transformation of the country. We strongly believe that our presence in Albania will help further develop the transformation of the telecommunications industry and technology.
The economy is facing the highest levels of inflation in more than 20 years. What impacts can this situation have on the electronic communications market?
International economic and geopolitical situations around the world have added a cost pressure on energy technology and resources and our sector is greatly affected by these changes. So far we have managed to keep the cost under control and not pass any effect on the subscriber, as has happened in other important sectors. The second effect of this crisis is that the world trend for cost reduction will lead to a higher use of digitalization, which in itself has a strong effect on reducing the inflation rate. This means that rapid digitization can actually help combat rapidly rising prices.
In your opinion, how important is the convergence between mobile and fixed services for competition among electronic communications operators? What benefits will ONE have from owning a fixed network infrastructure, after its merger with ALBtelecom?
We believe that connectivity in all ways: mobile, landline or wireless is a fundamental service that improves lives and facilitates businesses. We are convinced that by bringing all the possible advantages in quality and a single point of service where you find it all, without wasting time, we will create benefits that will be liked and embraced by all our subscribers. More than ONE, those who will benefit from the merger of these two services are the subscribers, because they will have more suitable and better quality packages. As a nationwide provider of four services (4P), we will be able to meet a wide range of requirements in telecommunications as well as IT, as we are now focusing on creating products that would provide convenience to households and SMEs -ve to combine what they need to get in the packages "
It is expected that in the coming years Albania will also switch to the 5G generation of mobile communications. What are the most fundamental changes that 5G technology can bring to operators and users of mobile services?
5G technology will become a reality in Albania soon and our 5G investments will drive a whole range of services and products that will be available thanks to this generation. We are convinced that our 5G products will enable and stimulate the private and public sectors to move towards next generation services. The new merged company, owning the strongest fixed network, as a legacy from ALBtelecom, will be the strongest advantage in the market that will differentiate us. With a strong track record in the IT field stemming from our parent company, 4iG, we will soon be able to offer services that support digitalization in Albania and introduce services that have not been available before, for a wide range of subscribers.
4iG Group's experience mainly includes information technology services. Do you believe that entering the electronic communications market will serve the Group to expand its business in Albania, in other ICT-related services?
Our objective to become a leading player of the ICT sector in Albania is in line with the global megatrend of combining telco services with IT. 4iG Group realizing this combination will bring tremendous competitive advantages to our business subscribers, compared to other companies, and will have more effective performance, higher protection and better operational security. It is a natural trend and an added value that the merged telecom company will also offer ICT products that come as connectivity extensions. The experience and success of 4iG will be an asset for the market and differentiating factors that will help the Albanian public and private sector to have access to the successfully implemented projects of the Group.
Your group is already a leading player in the electronic communications markets in Albania and Montenegro. Do you see any prospects in the near future for investments in other countries of the Western Balkan region?
The good news is that we will make Albania the main center of 4iG International. This decision of the 4iG investors speaks for itself about the strategic importance of Albania in the region. Yes, there are expansion plans in the Western Balkans. We want to create a group with a unified organizational and management structure, which will be able to operate under a single name in the Hungarian and international markets. The 4iG international center in Tirana will be a center of excellence for most innovative solutions, for building synergy in the region in the field of telecommunications and information technology. And we are very happy to have chosen Albania as our center in the region. /Monitor magazine
