The Albanian Road Authority has concluded the phase of announcing the winning companies for the 4 lots of the Elbasan-Qafëthanë road. Their construction will cost about ALL 9.34 billion.
The construction of 4 lots of the Elbasan - Qafë Thane road, part of Corridor 8, will cost about 9.34 billion ALL, excluding VAT. The Albanian Road Authority concluded the phase of announcing the winning companies for lots V, VI, VII and VIII, which include 14 km roads, while the limit fund made available was about 10 billion ALL, excluding VAT. The works in these segments will be carried out by the companies: Gjoka Konstruksion, Alb - Star, ANK and Fusha.
According to the indicative maps in the tender documents, phase VIII includes the construction of the road up to the town of Prrenjas, where the crossing from the Qafë - Thana customs point will also be avoided. The authorities have announced that an agreement has been reached with the Macedonian side for the new customs point and the connection of the 2 countries through a 5.8 km long tunnel, which will shorten the road by 24 km.
But, in practice, the announcement of the winners for 4 phases suggests that already in the entire axis from Elbasan to Prrenjas, there will be intervention for the construction of this important road segment.
However, the first 4 lots are in a more advanced stage, as one of them was opened a few days ago for the circulation of vehicles. Meanwhile, interventions are foreseen in the rest of this corridor, from Rrogozhina to Elbasan, but currently the project is being drawn up for this segment and then it will have to be submitted to tender procedures.
Corridor 8 is one of the most important routes for the circulation of passengers and goods, since it connects the ports of Italy with those of Bulgaria, passing through Albania and North Macedonia.
