Antoneta Sevdari has returned to the High Prosecutorial Council, being elected today as one of the members of the KLP from the ranks of the General Prosecutor's Office.

We recall that Sevdari is the first magistrate in Albania to return to the justice system after the overturning of a final vetting decision, in a battle that she won from the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

At the meeting being held today at the premises of the Justice Pole, two new members of the High Prosecutorial Council (KLP) are expected to be elected, from among the prosecution, who will replace the members whose mandate ends in 2026, namely Sokol Stojani, representative of the General Prosecutor's Office; Ledina Riza, representative of the appellate prosecution offices; and Zeqir Hoda, representative of the first instance prosecution offices.

This process today is quite important, at a time when the process for evaluating the five candidates for Prosecutor General has stalled.

The process for electing the Prosecutor General was unblocked on October 8, 2026, after the High Prosecutorial Council (KLP) rejected by a majority vote the candidates' mutual requests to exclude KLP members from decision-making.

There are five candidates running for this position:
Adnan Xholi (SPAK prosecutor)
Arta Marku (former Acting Prosecutor General)
Fatjona Memçaj (prosecutor at Eurojust)
Rovena Zoto (prosecutor in Tirana)
Ylli Pjetërnikaj (lecturer and prosecutor)

The process had been stalled for several weeks due to a chain of requests for the expulsion of KLP members (initially initiated by candidate Ylli Pjetërnikaj against member Vatë Staka and then other similar requests among members).
