Ilir Metaj could not dictate his opposition agenda to PD. His attempt to set a protest date in Tirana without consulting Berisha tested his impotence to dictate to Berisha a leading role in the opposition. Even though they did not reject it publicly and may lead "delegates" to the protest, it is clearly a protest of Ilir Meta. The refusal follows a long period of meditation by Ilir Meta about the paranoia that Berisha may have a hand in the publication of the history of his file.
But above all, the rejection comes at the height of Ilir Meta's struggles to lead a revolution that should start with September, while he went half way.
Ilir Meta's failure to start the opposition season together with Berisha comes from the claim that he should have a leading role in the opposition. And it's not that he has bad calculations. Compared to Sali Berisha, currently Ilir Meta is at least legally cleaner. He has not yet been punished as a person "a non grata" by the USA or Great Britain like Berisha. Leading the opposition and lying to the Albanians that you will become the prime minister of a country, when the USA and Great Britain do not accept it, is a joke without salt. In this aspect, Berisha's alliance with Metaj makes sense only if Berisha nominates him as prime minister, from the very beginning of this joint project. If not, then the merger can hardly work, even if formally it can be done.
Compared to Sali Berisha, Ilir Meta also has the advantage of age. When the 2025 elections come, he belongs to the 50-year-old generation, while Berisha belongs to the 80-year-old generation. This difference would be enough for Berisha to make way for him and build a coalition of trust with him, creating conviction among his militants that Meta will be with them.
Finally, compared to Berisha, Meta has the chance to choose, while Berisha has no chance if Ilir Meta escapes. Ilir Meta, as a small party, has secured the seat. He is sure that he can get 3 or 4 deputies, that he may not enter the government, or that he may increase or decrease beyond this figure. He becomes valid only if he puts the few votes he has to work by forming a government with Berisha. But unlike Meta, Berisha is dead if he joins Ilir Meta. He has neither the time nor the opportunity nor the votes to ever come to power. Therefore, at this point, his refusal not to give Ilir Meta a "leading" role is dangerous.
Berisha's supporters have it easier and are more relaxed if they see that Meta will become their prime minister and will be with them, than to live with fear in their hearts until 2025, enduring Ilir Meta's paranoia and comings and goings. his. That way they will be destroyed more.
Therefore, the only way for Berisha's opposition to have Ilir Meta as its ally is to have its own candidate for prime minister. Otherwise, until 2025, you will always see him in some alley protesting on his own account. Just to remember that they cannot do without it.
