For two days, the village of Bulçar in the Kodovjat Administrative Unit, Gramsh Municipality, has been engulfed by a massive fire, one of the largest for the month of September in the Elbasan region.
The flames have engulfed a significant forest area, bringing back scenes similar to those of August 2025, when hundreds of hectares of forest burned and had serious consequences.
The most recent fire in this area appeared in the early hours of Saturday morning and although part of it has been isolated, the situation still remains alarming.
The rugged mountainous terrain and strong winds have made intervention from the ground difficult, while helicopters have been deployed to assist the firefighting forces, who are operating to contain the spread of the flames towards residential areas and areas of economic importance.
According to Ilir Llapushi, Head of the Fire Protection and Rescue Service in the Gramsh Municipality, firefighters, municipal employees, and volunteers have worked non-stop throughout the weekend, but weather conditions and difficult terrain have made efforts to fully extinguish the fire extremely challenging.
"The fire has spread rapidly due to strong winds and high temperatures. It has been very difficult to control. We are currently still in intensive operations to avoid spreading to other endangered areas," Llapushi declared on Sunday morning.
