"We have to say enough to corruption, for Albania to be stronger." This was the message of the US Ambassador to Tirana, Yuri Kim during her speech at the first Anti-Corruption Conference in Albania. 

She said that she often hears that the fight against corruption in Albania should be done by the US, but according to her, this should be done by the Albanians themselves and the US will be with them at every step. The head of American diplomacy in Albania said that now is the time for our country to move to another level, fighting corruption.

That I have to give bribes, that I have to give a favor in order to use my talents. And this must end. We as the US consider the issue of corruption and see it as a matter of national security.

We want Albania to be independent, rich, to be a strong partner. We want Albania to be a partner, not a problem. And you have to lead the fight. I hear people say "only you can do it", but I say "you have to do it", and the US will be with you every step of the way, sometimes we will push you, sometimes you will get tired. But this is friendship, the moment when you can rise to another level. You are a member of NATO, you will be a member of the EU. You sit in the UN Security Council, and decide on important world issues, we are with you. Your ambassador to the UN is a superstar. You are at another level, it is time for other decisions to go to the next level, but you can not do that if corruption is seen as normal. The time has come for the law to be applicable to all. Whoever breaks the law must pay the price. Every citizen in a country like Albania should have a special opportunity. You are not looking for a species privilege, but equal opportunities for your children with others. "Let us put an end to corruption," said Yuri Kim
