The proposal of the CEC and some representatives of political parties in the country to create a 13th constituency, with 5 deputies reserved for the diaspora has received opposition from an association called "Diaspora for a Free Albania"

Through a statement distributed on social networks, this association states that this proposal weakens the weight of the diaspora vote and tends to reduce and centralize the influence of over 1.4 million diaspora Albanians to whom the constitution guarantees the right to vote.

She further adds that any proposal that aims to disguise the purpose and the right to vote from abroad to Albanian citizens, will face resistance from their Movement and will fight with all legal and political means available to civil society.

The Diaspora for a Free Albania (DPSHL) congratulates the CEC and the OSCE for the conference organized on "Voting from abroad, the time is now" on May 24, 2022, where the movement was represented by three of its members.

In this conference, Bledar Milaqi, co-founder and general secretary of DPSHL, reiterated the necessity of not denying and not alienating the vote of Albanians outside Albania. While the technical details and modalities regarding this vital topic for the future of Albanian democracy remain to be discussed, the DPSHL has followed with concern the proposal of some representatives of political parties to create a 13th constituency, with 5 deputies reserved for the diaspora. The movement categorically opposes this proposal which weakens the weight of the diaspora vote and tends to reduce and centralize the influence of over 1.4 million diaspora Albanians to whom the constitution guarantees the right to vote.

There is one and only one vote, equal for all. Any proposal that aims to disguise the purpose and the right to vote from abroad to Albanian citizens, will face resistance from our Movement and will fight with all legal and political means available to civil society! Our vote has weight! '- it is said in the statement of the association.
