An important discovery has come to light in Durres, right on the Hill of The Challiks in Likesh of Shijak.

This discovery, the first of its kind in the area, provides a very valuable evidence of aristocratic life and economic activity in Illyric.

The structure discovered on the hill suggests olive oil was produced there, a tradition that is confirmed as highly productive in the lands around Durres from Antiquity to our day.

"In this area we also deal with the Roman aqueduct who took water in the Erzen River and sent it to the colony of Durres. Two engineering infrastructure investments extremely important for the Roman Empire and the territory of Illyria, where we are," the archaeologist said.

According to archaeologist Brikena Shkodra, this discovery provides the first physical evidence for the activity of powerful producers in Durres, strengthening the status of this city as one of the largest Roman colonies of that period in the region.
