The government appears to be retaliating against everyone who participates in the protest and is legally connected to institutions through work or payments.

One of them is the Balkan athletics champion, David Nikolli .

Through a video post on the TikTok network, he denounces "the next farce", the dismissal from his state job, just because he participated in the national protest being held in front of the prime minister's office.


Nikolli has previously denounced financial reprisals or non-recognition of titles by state authorities.

"My titles are not recognized, I found out that yesterday my state rights were also taken away, because I went out to protest for our rights. Just days ago I received the next medal. Today, more than ever, we all need to be in the square together," he says, among other things.

He has 8 medals and has set 12 records in athletics.

David Nikolli's full reaction:

I am here to denounce the latest farce being perpetrated by the government in Albania.

As a champion who has represented my country with pride and given everything in sports, I am facing injustice.

I am the Balkan champion with 8 medals, I have 12 national records, and just a few days ago I won the Albanian national championship in two competitions.

I'm being stripped of my government job and my titles are not recognized because I went out to protest with the youth as a free citizen.

These injustices against me and against the youth will be punished legally together with my lawyers. I will pursue all legal avenues to protect my rights.

Don't worry, time will sort everything out. Free people cannot be afraid.
