The Special Prosecutor's Office against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) has filed a claim against the socialist mayor of Mallakastra, Qerim Ismailaj.
SPAK demands a 1-year prison sentence for Ismailaj because he hid a conviction in Greece in 2000.
The current Mayor of Mallakastër, Qerim Ismailaj, was convicted in Greece by a final decision of 2000 for an event that occurred in 1999.
This court found him guilty and sentenced Ismailaj in absentia to 3 years of imprisonment for the criminal offense of "Conflict"/"Fight", provided by article 313 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Greece, which in Albania corresponds to the criminal offense of "damage to intentionally", provided by article 90/1 of the Criminal Code, which provides for punishment only with a fine.
The case was denounced by the Democratic Party and then SPAK requested verification in Greece of his conviction.
