Saranda Police Station Dissolved, Entire Management Team in Handcuffs

The Chief of the Saranda Police Station, Gëzim Bashllari, two deputy commissioners and a police specialist were detained today by the Police Supervision Agency in cooperation with the State Police.

Meanwhile, other arrests are expected, as part of the investigations into the involvement of law enforcement officers in illegal construction in the most coveted coastal areas of the south, in Saranda and Ksamil.

AMP announces that according to investigative data, the persons under investigation are suspected of having created schemes with the aim of illegal profit, avoiding legal responsibility and favoring entities linked to criminal structures that operated in the territory of Saranda.

A day earlier, Saranda Police arrested 8 people who were carrying out illegal construction near the coast, while the owner of the land where the works were taking place was also wanted.

The Police Supervision Agency in cooperation with the State Police have proactively detained police officers:

- Commissioner Gëzim Bashllari, acting as Head of the Police Station;

- Deputy Commissioner Andi Duro, specialist in crime investigation

- Deputy Commissioner Ajdin Ismailaj, law enforcement specialist

- Inspector Robert Çullaj, area specialist;

against whom there are strong suspicions of committing criminal offenses:

- “Abuse of office”, provided for by Article 248 of the Criminal Code;

- “Committing arbitrary acts”, provided for by Article 250 of the Criminal Code;

- “Failure to take measures to terminate the illegal situation”, provided for by Article 251 of the Criminal Code; committed in collaboration.

The investigative actions have resulted in the suspicion that these police officers have allowed and favored unauthorized construction in the city of Saranda, failing to take legal measures to stop the illegality and carrying out procedural actions in flagrant violation of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

According to investigative data, the persons under investigation are suspected of having created schemes with the aim of illegal profit, avoiding legal responsibility and favoring entities linked to criminal structures operating in the territory of Saranda.

Investigations continue to fully document criminal responsibilities and identify other persons implicated in this illegal activity.

The Police Supervision Agency remains determined to crack down on any form of abuse of office, violation of the law, and collaboration with criminal elements, regardless of the function or position of the persons involved.
