Drugs seized in Peru

About 2.2 tonnes of cocaine was seized by police in Peri. The narcotics were hidden in boxes of asparagus in a truck, which was heading towards the port of the capital.

Foreign media report that seven people have been arrested as part of this operation, while two Albanians have been declared wanted. The latter, according to the head of Peruvian drug investigators, César Echevarría, were the perpetrators of drug smuggling. According to him, it is a network with connections to Colombia, Ecuador and Albania.

Police said the drugs would be shipped from the port of Callao near the Peruvian capital Lima to Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Since the beginning of the year, Peruvian police have seized about 35 tonnes of drugs. Peru uses about 400 tonnes a year from the world's largest cocaine producers.
