Residents clashing with police

Left and right-wing councilors, differing in political beliefs, found common ground today at the Saranda Municipal Council meeting to lease 60 hectares of land in the Nivica area, where a photovoltaic park is expected to be built.

While the decision was being made inside the closed-door meeting, there were tensions and clashes between residents and the police outside the hall. They consider the decision to be a robbery of their lands.

"The police came with a verbal order to block our entry. I know that the police protect the citizen's property, not its thief. Give up on that project, as much as Kakomeja was done, this one will be done too. We will be killed ," said a citizen.

"Nivica gathered for the property we have. We do not claim this is our property and it has its own boundaries. They did not allow us to attend the meeting, they stamped it, they signed it and then they say they took it. The way Nivica is being treated is illegal ," said another.

"They want to devour them, to destroy their properties. We demand an hour or so before, to be given the certificates. Let's not sit around with our fingers in our mouths. The police should open the way for us...", was the revolt of another citizen.

Caught by surprise by this decision, Sali Berisha gave this response:

"Apparently, it is not normal, but the whole context must be seen. Because yesterday I was informed by the media and I asked for clarification on how this problem stands. In any circumstances, the law requires dialogue with the community."

The company that has received permission to build the photovoltaic park is "Park Sol Energy", created in September 2022 and owned by businessmen Paqsor Buzi and Agim Xhindoli./ TCH
