A protest was held this Tuesday afternoon in front of the Albanian embassy in Athens, demanding the release of the newly elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri, who is accused of vote-buying.
The Greek media write that dozens of people have gathered in protest, including Fredi Beleri's brother, as well as the head of the Union of Himarjots, Thodoris Goumas, and demand the immediate release of Fredi Beleri.
As can be seen from the photo below, the Greek extremist Babis Karathanos is at the forefront of the protest, who has appeared publicly even during the campaign in support of Fredi Beleri.

Karathanos is declared non grata in Albania for anti-Albanian calls. He is a candidate for MP with New Democracy, Mitsotakis. It is not yet on the winning list, but it has been expressed that it hopes to win to protect the interests of the Greek state and the Greek minority in Albania and beyond.
The name of Babis-Harallambos Karathanos is connected with the Peshkepi massacre in April 1994, where the border police post in Gjirokastër was attacked at midnight and as a result two Albanian soldiers were killed.
Karathanos is arrested a year later in Greece, after being accused by the Albanian authorities as the man who entered the Albanian territory together with an armed group of seven people who carried out the massacre. Among those arrested was Fredi Beleri, but all the detainees were released.
In October 2018, when the Renea forces killed 35-year-old Kostandinos Kaçifa in Bularat, Gjirokastra, who attacked the police with a weapon, Babis Karathanos and Fredi Beleri were not absent from his funeral.
A year later, on the commemorative day of Kostandino Kaçifa, the Albanian police denied entry to Babis Karathanos after he had been declared a person 'non grata' in the Republic of Albania.
We invite all Himarjotes who live in Athens but also every Vorioepirot, every Hellad, every citizen of Greece and Albania who understands this injustice to join us in the peaceful protest that we are organizing on Tuesday, May 23 at 06.00 in the afternoon in a . Albanian Embassy in Athens (No. Vekiareli 7, Filothei).
Let us all together give the message that the practices of ordination will not go unanswered.
