DP against the Bektashi state

The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has once again opposed the initiative to create a Bektashi state in Albania, describing it as an "anti-constitutional and anti-national" project.

During the conversation with citizens, Berisha said that the Democratic Party has long reacted against this initiative, referring to his statements made in 2024. He noted that the Albanian state is secular and such an initiative attempts to incite religious division.

"The DP has reacted strongly. Anyone who is interested in the DP's reactions, I suggest they refer to my statements. I was under house arrest when I raised my voice against him and it must have been January 2024."

The DP made the same strong reaction in 2025. And, in my deepest conviction, this is an act primarily against Albanian Bektashism, which has been and is a true pillar of patriotism.

The Bektashis were the Frashërlli, the founders of the doctrine of Albanianism. The Bektashis were the invincible resisters against invasions and dictatorship. They have their blood, their faith, their contribution to the independent and sovereign state of Albania and have not fought against a Bektashi state.

They have inspired national unity and this adventure, which as we have previously stated, is in open contradiction with the Constitution of Albania, is in open contradiction with the secular character of the Albanian state since its foundation until today, and attempts to incite religious division in a country where religious tolerance and cooperation are the greatest thing in the soul of that people. The DP has been and is categorically against this anti-constitutional, anti-Albanian, anti-national initiative, and so on," Berisha said.
