Seven years after the sensational assassination attempt at " Xhamlliku " in Tirana, where former police officer Santiago Malko was executed, the investigation and trial against the persons involved as a criminal group continues.

The Special Court of Appeal for Corruption and Organized Crime has today changed the security measure for the defendant Ilir Selmani , accused of being one of the perpetrators of the murder of Malko, which occurred in August 2019.

The Appeals Court of Criminal Appeals announces that it has accepted the defendant's request, finding that the "prison arrest" measure has lost its force due to the expiration of the legal deadlines for pre-trial detention.

The trial panel has ordered Selman's immediate release from detention and his escort to his private residence in Tirana, where he will serve the new security measure of "house arrest."

"The prosecutor and the judicial police are ordered to execute this decision by continuously monitoring the defendant IS's residence. The defendant IS's immediate release and his escort to his residence are ordered," the Court of Appeals' ruling states.
