Neo-mountaineer warns residents about the "Mountain Package":
Edi Rama/ Marjana Koceku

Independent MP Marjana Koçeku has reacted against the inclusion of the areas of Shala, Shoshi and Pulti in the Mountains Package, raising concerns about the impact this initiative may have on the ownership and identity of these areas.

In one of her posts, Koçeku addressed the residents of these areas, stating that the Mountain Package is not a solution for their development, but risks bringing about the alienation of lands.

According to her, before promises of investment and development are accepted, residents must demand recognition of ownership and the right to decide for themselves on their lands.

She has also raised concerns about the lack of basic infrastructure in these areas, citing problems with ownership, roads and energy, which she says need to be addressed before any development projects.

Marjana Koçek's reaction:

Dear residents of Shala, Shosh and Pult, The inclusion of your areas in the Mountain Package, as you know these days, is not the salvation of those lands, but the beginning of an alienation that will have consequences so negative that you will no longer be able to control those lands.

If you want to be servants and beggars in your own lands, then accept the Mountain Package, but let me tell you that our mountains do not fit into the package, and that our land has managed to preserve its identity for centuries.

It was neither conquered nor sold. And you must keep in mind, each of you, that conquests have always come in new guises, so that you do not recognize them.

I know that, whatever price they may offer you, you will not give up the lands of the first, if only for the fact that they belong to the first... because the mountaineer has been and is the master of his own land.

But now the only way to get them is to speculate through the law on the pretext that you will finally be able to develop those lands, while in the meantime you have neither property titles, nor roads, nor energy, nor the conditions of an infrastructure that ensures you an ounce of a good life.

You never knew how to ask for those conditions! So before you accept any promise of "development", ask for what you have been denied so far: your property, and the right to decide for yourself what happens to your property.

Development that takes you off the land and turns you into vassals and servants of someone else cannot be called development, otherwise you would have been "developed" in time.
