Former Vlora Chief Prosecutor Aurel Zarka is released after 2 years in prison

The Special Appeal released the former Chief Prosecutor of Vlora, Aurel Zarka, from prison, who had been held since June 2024.

The decision was made by Judge Florjan Kalaja, who, after hearing Zarka's defense attorney and the prosecutor in the case, who requested his release from the cell, decided to accept the request.

Release after the former head of the Vlora Prosecution Office has completed serving his sentence.

Zarka was sentenced to 4 years in prison for "corruption" and "unlawful influence" in the Toyota Yaris case, a sentence that was reduced to 2 years and 8 months due to a summary trial.

The investigation into the file known as the "Toyota Auris" was registered after the seizure at the port of Durrës, in June 2018, of 3.4 million euros in 'cash' hidden in two used cars imported from Belgium.
