Europe Day/ Rama: Albania in the final steps towards the EU

Prime Minister Edi Rama has delivered his speech on May 9, Europe Day.

Rama stated that Albanians feel the value of Europe and integration and are confident in the progress of this progress.

"We feel to the core the invaluable value of Europe, of being European and on the other hand of having the opportunity to live in the EU. Yesterday we had a marked event, which would have been unimaginable a few years ago, the prelude to the World Congress of Law that will be held next year in Albania. Written by people of law who have come together and give voice through this platform to the fundamental need for the rule of law.

The World Law Congress is coming to Albania because we have become a point of reference based on the expression of an iron will to self-determine ourselves under the rule of law, by implementing a justice reform that is second to none in our region and is the most meaningful expression of the commitment to making Albania a country where the EU becomes an inseparable part.

And it would be absolutely impossible for us to undertake, let alone carry forward and implement step by step, with all the difficulties, such a reform if we did not have Europe as a dream and promised land, as an inalienable trust and an indisputable mission, and on the other hand if we did not have the EU as an inseparable partner on this path, where the EU's knowledge transferred to us about how a country can turn into an institutional architecture is something that can neither be bought nor replaced and imagined outside the perimeter of Europe.

If today we are confident about the progress of this process, this is related to walking hand in hand with the EU. Being part of it is a guarantee. Many paint the EU as an obstacle, as a burden, as a perimeter that does not allow you to breathe freely, but nothing could be further from the truth and more wrong, because in fact the EU guarantees the perimeter of the rule of law and the rule of law cannot be negotiated.

On this Europe Day, which celebrates not just the EU but Europe as a cradle of culture, I want to strongly underline that Albanians are in their best day, but they are also today at a time when the blessing of being close to a united Europe is a guarantee of being on a path of no return. This is a path of no return and for this I want to honor those who imagined and then gave life to the EU project, and I want to honor those who work every day to bring Albania closer to the dream that is no longer a distant horizon, but a peak visible to the eye; we are in the final steps of a history that has lasted for centuries.

"We started Europe Day today with a meaningful performance by a group of children and young people, and we will close it tonight with the sounds of a great artist who will come to "Mother Teresa" Square. You are all invited, regardless of the weather and with the guarantee that it will be an unforgettable night ," said Prime Minister Rama.
