On Europe Day, the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, addressed a message to Albanian citizens, emphasizing that their future lies in the European Union.

“Dear citizens of Albania, I address you today as future members of the European Union. On Europe Day we celebrate our common European project, where our founding members chose unity over division and cooperation over conflict. They decided to build a future of peace, freedom and prosperity on the ashes of the Second World War. We believe that your future lies in the European Union.”

Kosta praised the reforms our country has undertaken for integration into the European Union.

“A great deal of work is being done to make this a reality. Albania has made considerable progress with the negotiations over the past year. I encourage you to continue the momentum of reforms. Together we will build a common European future. Long live Europe!”

Other European leaders, such as Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen and Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas, also delivered messages on Europe Day. Their stances focused on freedom and democratic values.

Europe Day is a holiday that marks the unity of the peoples of Europe and peace among them. This date is associated with the historic declaration made by French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman on 9 May 1950 that paved the way for the founding of the European Union. He proposed that European countries cooperate economically and politically to avoid future wars after World War II.
