INVESTIGATION/ Fishermen from Albania use electricity to catch fish in

Often, in recent years, fishermen in Bojan return home empty-handed from night fishing, but the reason for empty nets and "dry" hooks is not a lack of skills or experience - their nightmare is organized groups of poachers from neighbors .

Albania depleting the river's fish reserve, penetrating deep into the territory of Montenegro. This was confirmed for "Vijesti" by some fishermen from Ulcinj, who requested that their names not be mentioned due to possible revenge.

"After every report to the police about illegal hunting, we find the vessels destroyed. It is not impossible that the hunters have connections from our side of the border with the Police", said one of the fishermen for "Vijesta".

In the last ten years, he says, several groups of poachers have formed who hunt along the river, often up to the fork and the common mouth with, as they claim, the "blessing" of the Albanian border fleet.

"Initially they fished with explosives in our waters a decade and a half or two ago, now they use electricity. Battery from 12 volts to 220 volts. The tools are unlicensed, but they also have an electric motor outboard, which makes the hunt completely silent", says our fisherman.

Another fisherman remembers that while he was fishing at night "with a stick" at the entrance to the Shaska canal, he suddenly noticed that the fish started to come out of the water in an uncontrolled manner. Immediately afterwards he noticed an Albanian boat using electricity.

"They didn't even pay attention to my complaints, but continued poaching," he said.

But also, according to experts, from fishing currents, in addition to adults, younger fish also suffer, causing damage to the ecosystem./ Vijesti
