The southeast of Albania was engulfed in the early hours of this Thursday morning by a series of earthquakes, the largest of which was 4.4 on the Richter scale. According to seismologists, this region has been in intense seismic activity with micro-earthquakes all the time.
"A series of earthquakes was registered in the southeast of the country and the largest magnitude of this series was 4.4 on the Richter scale and the activity continues there, there is microactivity. It is typical for this area, it is the clustering activity of microearthquakes. It was felt locally and over 70 aftershocks were recorded" - says seismologist Edmond Dushi for TV Klan.
Since February, when Turkey was hit by a devastating earthquake, the entire Mediterranean region has recorded seismic activity, which seismologists say is still expected to reverberate.
"We constantly record seismic activity in this area. Starting from 2019, we have had a prominent activity in this area that has continued from time to time. And in addition to the area inside the Albanian territory, we also had one on the border with Greece, which proves that the region has been active recently" - says seismologist Edmond Dushi.
Over 100 earthquakes of moderate magnitude have been recorded in the area of ??Korça during one year.
