German Ambassador to Tirana, Karl Bergner

The German Ambassador to Tirana, Karl Bergner, has reacted through a message shared on social networks, regarding the start of the process for selecting the new head of the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SPAK).

Bergner praised SPAK for its great contribution to the fight against corruption and organized crime, and called for the competition for the new leader to be transparent, based on merit, and free from external influence.

Bergner's message:

On the occasion of the opening of applications for the successor to the head of the Special Prosecution Office (SPAK), the German Ambassador to Tirana, Karl Bergner, stated:

"In recent years, under the leadership of Altin Dumani, SPAK has made extraordinary contributions to the fight against corruption and organized crime in Albania. The great trust of the Albanian population and Albania's international partners in SPAK's work impressively underlines this.

The process launched today by the High Prosecutorial Council to select the next head of SPAK must be transparent, based on merit and free from external influence.

The independence of the judiciary, which must be demonstrated in the process launched today, but also in the daily actions of the executive and legislative bodies, is a key criterion for Germany regarding the rule of law and the level of Albania's preparation for EU membership."
