Albanian child drowns in front of his father in Greece, his father does nothing

A 6-year-old girl has died in Greece, after drowning on the beach of Corinth in front of her father, who did nothing to save the little girl.

The tragic event happened yesterday, August 23.

As reported by the Greek media, Amelia's father has claimed before the Greek justice system that he did not dive into the sea to save his daughter, because he suffers from asthma, and therefore cannot hold his breath in the water.

"I panicked when the little one fell into the sea," Amelia's father is quoted as saying.

How did the event happen?

Everything started yesterday afternoon, when the Albanian father, divorced from his wife, took Amelia to go out to eat at a restaurant by the sea.

Because the weather was unsettled and cold, they would not bathe in the sea and therefore did not take bathing suits with them. After eating, according to eyewitnesses, Amelia asked her father to go to the boat that was in the sea, reports abcnews.al.

Her father told her that they didn't have bathing suits with them, but Amelia insisted and so he agreed to go to the boat with her daughter. The distance of the boat from the sea was about 25-30 meters and the water depth 5-6 meters. The sea was rough due to bad weather.

The father got a life jacket, put it on his daughter and as they were dressed they headed for the boat. The father did not have his phone or other items with him. As the father told the Coast Guard, when they approached the boat, he tried to lift Amelia into the boat, but she slipped. According to him, after slipping, the minor's vest came off and as a result the 6-year-old ended up under the boat.

What raises doubts is the fact that the father did nothing to save his daughter. He said that he did not dive to save her because he had asthma, and that he could not hold his breath in the water, reports abcnews.al.

The big question that remains is why Amelia's father did nothing in the 3-4 minutes that the little girl was struggling with death.

For this reason, investigations have been started for Amelia's father, as he is accused of exposing the minor to danger. He was arrested yesterday by the Greek police, while today he was released under restrictive conditions.

The investigator and the prosecutor decided to release him with the restriction of leaving the country and his appearance every first day of the month at the police station
