Edi Rama wins defamation trial with his "former golden bee". Brisida Shehaj reacts

A year after the Socialists came to power, Prime Minister Edi Rama would present the Golden Bee award to Brisida Shehaj, then director of taxes.

Two years later, Shehaj would resign from this position and became a strong critic of Edi Rama on social networks and television studios after joining the former Socialist Movement for Integration.

In 2022, Shehaj stated that the prime minister is using the fuel transparency board to put money in his own pockets.

This was considered by Edi Rama as a fabrication and he filed a defamation lawsuit with the Tirana Court.

In the lawsuit, Prime Minister Rama's lawyers wrote that he was harmed by statements made by Shehaj on March 10, 2022 in a video post on her Instagram profile, after the establishment of the transparency board at that time.

Describing Shehaj's statements as defamatory and unfounded, Rama sought 1 million lek in damages from her.

Top Channel journalist Muhamed Veliu learns that a few days ago the Tirana Court of First Instance ruled in favor of Prime Minister Edi Rama and considered Shehaj's statement as defamation.

The decision requires Edi Rama's former close associate to publish a rebuttal on social media, but not an obligation to pay monetary damages as the prime minister requested in the lawsuit.

Contacted by Top Channel whether she will implement this request of the Tirana court, Brisida Shehaj said: "I will appeal the decision because it is not final."

In the past, Prime Minister Edi Rama has won four other defamation lawsuits against Sali Berisha.

Lulzim Basha, Albana Vokshi, Arben Imami and Jorida Tabaku were also found guilty of defamation against Rama by the court./ TCH
