Escape attempt from Shenkoll prison fails, lasts only... three minutes

An escape attempt failed today at Shenkoll prison.

The escape of Adriano Berisha, 31, lasted only three minutes.

He was recaptured after he had moved about 500 meters from the prison fence, returning him to his cell.

Shenkoll Prison clarifies the case:

"The incident occurred at around 09:30, during an auxiliary activity for the arrangement of waste in the external regime of the institution, under the supervision of security employees. During this process, the person in question crossed the external perimeter wire, attempting to leave the territory of the institution.

Immediately after the discovery, at around 09:33, he was apprehended and neutralized near the institution by the responsible employees, without any resistance or opposition on his part and without any incident or danger to the employees or the community.

We emphasize that the Lezha Penitentiary is a special medical institution, where security measures adapted to patients are implemented and not for convicts or detainees. This category of persons is treated in a differentiated manner, in accordance with the legislation in force and medical and human rights standards.
