People's Advocate

The People's Advocate has reacted after the suicide of Pal Trashaj, the historian from Lezha who had fallen victim to a fraudulent scheme with microcredits.

AP says that in obtaining microloans, the risks must be made clear by providing complete information to prevent similar situations.

"This tragic case highlights not only the vulnerability of citizens to small credit systems, but also the inadequacy of measures that do not deal with the problem at its core and origin", says the reaction of the People's Advocate.

Full statement:

A serious event was recorded a few days ago, near the Special Prosecutor's Office (SPAK), where Pal Trashaj, 63 years old, in a serious psychological state due to his problems with microcredits, died after drinking phostoxin.

Regardless of where the tragic act took place, the event must not lose focus. It is essential to understand that the person's need to address his situation must find a solution by addressing the causes of the problem, so that such phenomena do not recur. Although SPAK is not the institution responsible for this problem, it is important that citizens do not feel powerless in addressing their concerns.

Moreover, in obtaining microloans their risks must be clear, providing complete information and support to prevent similar situations.

The incident becomes even sadder considering the ordeal of his efforts to seek justice, until he gave up because he could not find a solution and undertook this heinous act.

This tragic case highlights not only the vulnerability of citizens to small credit systems, but also the inadequacy of measures that do not deal with the problem at its core and origin.

Although the Ombudsman does not have a mandate to handle complaints in the private sector, he has exerted positive pressure for the fair and honest implementation of enforcement procedures.

The Ombudsman also calls for a review of microcredit practices and the strengthening of protective mechanisms to prevent such cases in the future.
