Sources for Vox News inform that the Socialist Party will not accept the formula proposed the day before by Gazment Bardhi, according to which the opposition would propose six candidates to the majority and the latter would select three, from which the opposition would choose one name to present to the plenary session.
According to sources, the socialist majority is expected to submit for a vote in the parliamentary session the entire list of candidates who have secured at least 28 supporting signatures, not limiting themselves to just one candidacy, as the Democratic Party is requesting.
It is also learned that the SP will support the candidacy of Endri Shabani, who has received signatures from all deputies of the DP group, with the exception of Sali Berisha and Flamur Noka.
The election of the Ombudsman is expected to be included on the agenda at the December 11 session, when the Assembly will review the 2026 budget article by article.
So far, the Democrats have signed several candidacies, such as Jola Hysi, Adriana Kalaja, Endri Shabani, Besim Ndregjoni, Sajmir Visha, Tartar Bazaj, Dardan Mustafa and Shkëlqim Sulo.
The mandate of the People's Advocate, Erinda Ballanca, ended in May 2022, but she has continued in office for more than three years while awaiting a successor. Even in the previous legislature, there were several attempts to find a consensual name between the SP and the DP, which did not bring results, due to the need for 84 votes and the tradition that this position was entrusted to a candidate proposed by the opposition.
