For two days, the center of Tirana has resembled a war zone. Protesters have attacked public institutions, but also a large number of private businesses, including several bank branches, hitting a strategic sector of the economy.

Meanwhile, the State Police is mainly concentrated near the Prime Minister's Office and ministries, practically leaving private businesses to their fate.

Near the Unknown Soldier, protesters were allowed to enter the premises of a second-tier bank, while similar episodes were recorded at two other branches in central Tirana. The banks had previously announced the interruption of service at branches inside the Small Ring Road due to the situation.

But a completely different picture emerged when the protesters headed to the Socialist Party headquarters. In this case, the Police mobilized numerous forces, and even masked people appeared on the scene, without identifying uniforms and with rubber batons.

Law enforcement appears to be focused on protecting the Prime Minister's Office and the SP headquarters, Edi Rama's two centers of power, while private businesses are left exposed to attacks and destruction.

It is difficult not to suspect that this is not simply a matter of impotence or lack of police forces, but a development that requires explanation.

Are Rama and Minister Demo deliberately letting the city burn, to show viewers, those who follow the protest only on screen, how dangerous and violent the protesters are?

Violence and destruction of private property are never justified under any circumstances. But the state's duty is to prevent them, not simply to display their consequences on social media. /skyweb.al
