An audio recording has emerged in which Arlinda Zekaj, who was killed with an axe by her former brother-in-law Albert Sylaj in Vitomirica, Kosovo, sought help and protection from the police, but was refused.

During the discussion with Officer Faruk Muçolli, the 49-year-old woman asked him to implement the protection order she had requested against her ex-husband.

Zekaj also expressed the concern he felt for his own safety and that of his son, but received dismissive reactions from the police.

'I have no obligation to deal with you, go file a written complaint against me,' Officer Farruku replied to the 49-year-old.

The victim, while addressing the officer, warned him that she could be killed, but Officer Farruku did not seem to take her statements seriously.

Audio recording of victim Arlinda Zekaj with the Kosovo Police officer:

Arlinda: When I saw my son's mental health being destroyed, you did nothing.

Officer: We didn't act? How many times did you go to the police station to report that situation?

Arlinda: Millions of times. I even sleep there.

Officer: Have you filed a claim against us?

Arlinda: I don't know. I don't know.

Officer: Did you submit a written request? I told you that day that I have no obligation to deal with you. Believe me, I am not obligated. Every time the police station calls me, I tell them to submit a written complaint. Forget about how many times you are asking for Faruk, you are getting Faruk.

Arlinda: You want to implement that decision and that's it. It's very simple. You also have the point that the boy trusted me.

Officer: You read it differently, we read it differently. Today I have a moral obligation to take you to the door of the house.

Arlinda: Faruk, please. I'm being killed, it doesn't matter. But you will answer. All the women who were killed. For all the women who were killed, they answered like this, after they died.
