It is now official: Gianluigi Buffon retires from football. The now 45-year-old former goalkeeper announced the end of his professional career with an emotional video posted on Instagram, accompanied by a concise but direct "social" message: "It ends here. You gave me everything. I too have given you everything. We won together."

So Gigi Buffon says enough. After long reflections, "Superman" stops at the age of 45. It remains to be seen what his future will be, as there are several options on the table.

In this way, "Superman" closes a perfect cycle. He started with Parma in November 1995 and ended with Parma in the summer of 2023, after a 28-year career.

A legendary career, mostly spent in defense of the goal of Juventus (2001-2021, apart from the intermezzo at PSG in 2018-2019), with which he won 10 Serie A titles (plus a Serie B championship), 7 Italian Super Cups , 5 Italian Cups (to which must be added the one won with Parma in 1998-1999).

And then, of course, his 2006 World Championship shines brightly, a real gem that represents the pinnacle of "Superman's" career. His only hostage is the absence of the Champions League in the long list of trophies won.

In Gigi's future, however, there is no park bench... He will never be "retired" like everyone else, as he still has a great desire to do and give. He has received several proposals in the last period, among them from Parma, but the most meaningful and attractive one seems to be the position of head of the delegation of the Axur national team; the same role that Gianluca Vialli had.

FIGC president Gravina has identified Buffon as the right man. "Superman" will need some time before giving an answer. The national team has always been close to his heart and in light of 176 official appearances for the Blues (more than anyone else ever) it is only a matter of time before we understand what the commitment should be going forward.

In the meantime, Gigi will have the opportunity to enjoy time with his family, to see his children grow up, to follow young Louis Thomas, who this year as a striker will perform with Pisa. And then, another wish that he will finally be able to fulfill, is to learn English well and understand what is the dynamic of a manager in today's football.

After the holidays, knowing his tenacity and consistency, you can be sure that Buffon will be at work to build a new career.
