After the match, Marcelo wrote a message on his Instagram account to apologize publicly: "Today I had to go through a very difficult moment on the field. I accidentally injured a professional colleague".

"I want to wish you the best possible recovery, Luciano Sánchez. All the strength in the world!", the former Real Madrid player shared with his more than 64.5 million followers on Instagram.

Fernando Diniz, the Fluminense coach and current Brazil coach, defended Marcelo in the post-match press conference.

"I'll make a metaphor. For me it's like when someone is driving on the road, goes through the green light and it's the driver's fault. Marcelo was dribbling and he had nowhere to put his foot. For me, Marcelo's red card was absolutely absurd, crazy. What would Marcelo do?", said Diniz.
