Spain risks being punished by UEFA, due to the calls of some players during the celebrations in Madrid for the European victory.
In front of the many fans who had filled the square to celebrate, Morata and Rodri sang in chorus: "Gibraltar is Spanish", a chorus that was then continued by the fans.
Gibraltar is a British overseas territory on the southern coast of Spain and has often been the subject of controversy among Spanish far-right political parties.
After the appeals of the two players, the Gibraltar Football Federation also reacted, which is preparing an official complaint to UEFA.
"The Gibraltar Football Federation has noted the provocations and insults during the celebrations of the victory of the Spanish men's national team at Euro 2024.
The federation is taking advice on lodging a complaint with European football's governing body, UEFA, about unacceptable songs about Gibraltar sung by Spain's men's national team players after winning Euro 2024. Football has no place for behavior of this nature", says the statement.
UEFA has often been tough on these situations and Spain risks being fined. Also, the possibility of a suspension for the two players who sang is not excluded.
