Thomas Muller officially retires from the National Team

After 14 years filled with successes and failures, Thomas Muller officially decides to retire from the German national team. The news was confirmed by number 13 itself, through a post on social networks.

His last game was the loss against Spain in the Euro 2024 quarter-finals, where Muller came on late in the second half. In total, he has played 131 games with Germany, scoring 45 goals.

He was included in the squad for the European Championship but played just 56 minutes in total, being used as a substitute by Julian Nagelsmann.

The only success with Germany is winning the World Cup in 2014 in Brazil. During that tournament, Muller scored 5 goals, the same as he had scored four years earlier in South Africa, becoming the all-time leading scorer in the tournament's history.

It is not yet known whether Muller will continue to be part of Bayern Munich in the future, but he still has one year left on his current contract.

It has often been reported in the German media that he is seen by the Bavarian club's management as a suitable figure to take on a technical role at the club after he retires from playing football.
