Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez will miss the World Cup after suffering an injury in the match against Real Betis. The player suffered a blow to his right leg, which forced him to leave the field after the first half. Medical examinations confirmed a fracture in his finger, necessitating surgery, which is expected to be carried out immediately.
The fracture that connects the little finger to the ankle is often caused by repeated impacts or high-intensity matches. Due to this injury and the recovery process after surgery, the period of absence from the field will be at least two months.
This injury comes at a critical moment, as the Spanish national team coach, Luis de la Fuente, will announce the list of invited players on May 25.
Spain will make their World Cup debut on June 15 against Cape Verde in Atlanta, just four weeks after the player's injury ruled him out of the tournament, which ends on July 19.
Lopez's absence is a blow to the Spanish national team, given his key role in recent successes. The footballer was part of the team that won the European Championship in 2024 and excelled at the Paris Olympics, where he won the gold medal and was named the best player of the tournament with six goals scored.
