The International Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals has rejected a request by former Serbian intelligence chief Jovica Stanisic for early release from prison.
He was sentenced to 15 years in prison and has served 2/3 of the sentence for crimes against humanity and violations of the laws or customs of war.
According to the Mechanism, he was part of a joint criminal enterprise whose aim was to forcibly and permanently displace non-Serb residents from areas of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In relation to the request, the Mechanism has noted that although Stanisic meets the criteria to request early release, this does not justify his release, especially in light of the gravity of his crimes.
