Former Deputy Prime Minister Arben Ahmetaj, for whom the Special Procuracy has requested from the parliament the authorization for his arrest, turns out to have left Albania. At the meeting of the Council of Mandates started this afternoon in the presidency of the parliament, to consider the request of the Prosecutor's Office, one of his lawyers, Henrik Ligori, is said to have asserted that Mr. Ahmetaj is not in Albania.
The Voice of America has confirmed through official sources that he left the land border of the country, towards Greece, on Friday morning, just a few hours before the Prosecutor's Office sent the letter for the arrest to the parliament.
Sources close to the Albanian authorities also told the Voice of America that Mr. Ahmetaj bought a plane ticket to Italy online, but did not use it. Other sources, not officially confirmed, show that from the verifications of the signal of his cell phone, the last moment of the location turns out to have been Canada, reports the Voice of America.
The chairman of the democratic parliamentary group, Gamend Bardhi, expressed the same hypothesis at the meeting of the Council of Mandates, when he asked the head of the Special Prosecution, Altin Dumani, about this, but without receiving an answer from him.
If this were true, then in all likelihood his departure would be final, to escape facing justice.
