The deputy of the Democratic Party, Gazment Bardhi, has accused the majority of favoring the former minister Arben Ahmetaj by accepting the request of his lawyers to postpone the session of the Council of Mandates for the next day at 16:00.
Bardhi, who was present at the meeting that lasted over four hours, said that this postponement means that the authorization for Ahmetaj's arrest will also be postponed until next week.
Bardhi also accused the members of the opposition of not voting on the request that the session for the removal of Ahmetaj's mandate be held with open doors.
"The meeting started with a request that the meeting be open-door. It was a request or suggestion of SPAK to be carried out behind closed doors. The majority took the decision without a council vote and the meeting continued behind closed doors. There was no other additional information, as warned, to give time to Ahmetaj's lawyers, who were convinced that he did not run away.
In an illegal majority attempt, the entry was decided, delaying the authorization until next week. There were also two technical questions, whether SPAK was under pressure from the government, both of these issues are not related to what the Council of Regulation was convened. Ahmetaj should have been in prison since 2020.
It has taken three years, it has been an in-depth investigation that has been extended and in his wealth, I congratulate him. Because this is a standard that should be applied to every public official", declared Bardhi at the end of the Mandates Council meeting.
